  • New Mexico Proposes Felony Charges for Cargo Theft

    New Mexico recently proposed a bill that would enact felony charges for those convicted of cargo theft. New Mexico is just one of the very few states to move towards harsher punishment for a crime that hurts not only the trucking business, but for consumers and economy as well. Currently, California, Florida, Texas, Georgia and New Jersey are the top five states with severe punitive repercussions for cargo theft. Felony cargo theft charges could result in up to 9 years in prison and fines that would cover the value of what was stolen. FreightWatch International estimates that cargo theft is responsible for between 15 and 30 million dollars in losses every year.     Dropping Soda Sales Prompt Coca-Cola to Market to Lower-Income Nations

    Much like the tobacco companies, major soda manufacturers are seeing the writing on the wall. America has transformed into a more health-conscious nation and in turn, soda sales has been steadily dropping for years. After anti-tobacco ads started appearing in the early 2000’s, tobacco companies were forced to seek sales in lower-income countries and soda manufacturers, like Coca-Cola, are following suit. Coca-Cola has announced that after declining U.S. sales, they will be investing more than $40 billion into developing nations such as Brazil, Mexico, Africa and China. The theory behind the strategy is to pursue nations that do not have national heath or anti-obesity measures in place and appeal to a market of less health-conscious consumers. Read more…

    Concerns over the Zika virus, strong U.S. dollar, and low gas prices all give AAA reason to suggest now is a great time to schedule that trip you’ve wanting to take. Low fuel prices have brought airfare tickets down to a 6 year low with the average domestic flight going for $372. The Zika outbreak, which has spread over much of Central and South America and can be spread by mosquito, has not caused many outright vacation cancellations, but instead is prompting people to reschedule.
